“At the height of the Cold War, a communist political prisoner on hunger strike is sent to be confronted by a suspicious doctor, in a claustrophobic hospital room in West Germany.

Their past history together is unspecific and strange, although their chemistry is undoubtedly clear, and through a tense and thrilling interrogation, an intellectual and philosophical cat-and-mouse game based on status, ideology, politics, family and sex erupts between the two. Who will dominate the other as they act out the different roles of society against each other in this dystopian setting?

Lars Norén is widely considered to be Scandinavia’s biggest playwright since the likes of Strindberg and Ibsen, and has written critically acclaimed plays for major theatre houses all over central and north Europe, although he is virtually unknown in Ireland. Tragically passing away in 2021 as one of the many victims of the covid pandemic, Glass Mask Theatre now becomes the first Irish theatre to honour the unique legacy of this dramatic giant, and in the hands of Swedish director Johan Bark, whose work has been staged in seven different countries, Glass Mask Theatre dares to promise a particularly unique theatrical experience.”
